1969 - Department of Defense (DoD) assigns ARPA to experiment with linking DoD and military research contractors, ARPANet created with 4 hosts. Network should be resistant to interruptions from enemy attacks.
1971 - ARPAnet's Ray Tomilinson sends the first e-mail message "Testing 1-2-3". ARPA task Stanford to experiment with packet switching technologies.
